International Business

The world is full of diverse people and cultures, and every bit as important diverse regulatory regimes. Some countries are known for great service and a great work ethic, others for solid laws and court structures, and others for favourable tax regimes.

In my career I have been lucky enough to work in a number of different countries, and work with many different people from many different backgrounds. Making the most of each country and each group of people is the key to success.

Currently I am responsible for businesses in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and the British Virgin Islands. I do a lot of business with the French, and love France. Running businesses in all these countries creates challenges and opportunities, and all are fascinating places to run businesses.

Great site GIles! I am curious to know what country you would chose in the current economic situation to start your next business? Or do we need to wait and see?

The two places that excite me the most are obviously China but also Brazil, however I really feel that to start a business anywhere you really need to completely understand the market dynamics. You need to understand exactly your suppliers, your distributors, your customers and how your proposition will be received. This mean’s the safest place is your own back yard will always be the best place to start a business. Depending on the type of business especially with the way technology has evolved over the last 15 years, business can now be totally mobile utilizing online strategies. I would probably choose somewhere lovely to live and build the business online. Web based businesses really have no boundaries. by Giles Cadman – Venulum
